The Artillery Officers' Sword that is shown in this picture has a brass knuckle-bow hilt with floral designs and the pommel is that of an eagle head. The grips are mother of pearl plaques that are grooved to hold the wire wrappings The joints between these pearl plaques are two strips of brass with a ferrule at the base of the grips. The counter-guard has a heavily scrolled design. Both the obverse and reverse sides of the straight blade have engraved floral and military designs. The U.S. Army poster on the previous page shows an officer carrying a similar sword.
