    Foot Officers’ Sword,  Model 1850  (HLP 81)

The Foot Officers’ Sword was used by all foot officers of Infantry, Artillery, and Riflemen through the rank of Captain. This sword was manufactured by Collins & Co., Hartford, Conn. in 1862 and engraved by Tiffany & Co., N. Y. The knuckle-bow gilded brass hilt is ribbed and pierced with a sword knot at the pommel, which is decorated with oak leaves. The hilt has an oval counter-guard decorated on the obverse side with branches and scrolls. The grips are fish skin, wound with brass wire. The obverse side of the curved blade is engraved with military trophies and floral sprays. On the reverse side “US’, f1ora1 sprays & Tiffany & Co. are engraved. The ricasso carries the manufacturer’s name.
